Gloucester Unitarian Universalist Church

This time of meditation practice and teaching will focus entirely on the practical nuts-and-bolts of sitting and walking meditation. Additionally, I will offer instruction in the kind of meditation-in-everyday-life we call mindfulness.

Each time we gather, I will offer a guided meditation during the first seated meditation.  Then, I will offer pointers during the 10-minute period of walking meditation.  The twenty- minute period of seated meditation that follows the walking meditation will be in silence.  And lastly, during the final 30-minutes I will offer a talk on the practical aspects of meditation.

“If the whole universe can be found in our own body and mind, this is where we need to make our inquires. We all have the answers within ourselves, we just have not got in touch with them yet. The potential of finding the truth within requires faith in ourselves.”
― Ayya Khema

This series of talks is based on two pillars.  The first pillar is my nearly 30-years of meditation experience.

For the second pillar, I will draw on Ayya Khema’s To Be Seen Here and Now, a series of ten talks on meditation she gave at the Pelmadulla Bhikkhu Training Center in Sri Lanka.  Here’s a link to those talks: vipassana.com/meditation/khema/hereandnow/index.php
